Welcome to Island Air
Charters! Island Air Charters, Inc. (also known as Island Air) is a certified U.S. Department of
Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, Air Carrier
authorized to conduct flight operations under the provisions
of 14 CFR Part 135 by certificate number ISCA092F. Island Air
Charters, Inc. is also the holder of a License to Provide
Charters Services issued by the Commonwealth of the
Bahamas.
Island Air currently operates both scheduled and "ad hoc" (or,
"on demand") charter flights for passengers and cargo traveling to
destinations in South Florida, the Bahamas, the islands of the
Caribbean, Mexico and all countries in Central America.
Founded in 1986 by James Dean Birmingham, Island Air only
provided air transport to a select group of Bahamian Islands,
including the Bimini Island group of South Bimini, Cat Cay and
Ocean Cay, plus the Berry Islands and Walker's Cay, the western
most island of the Abaco Islands. On March 30, 2007,
however, that all changed. On that date Island Air was
purchased by Ms. Linda K. House, who brought to the company new management and an
expansion plan that not only benefited all those who
had been traveling with Island Air on a regular basis in the
past, but those new
travelers flying to destinations never before serviced
by Island Air.
Currently, Island Air operates three
Britten-Norman Islander and one Piper Chieftain aircraft from
the company's home base located in the Sheltair building complex
(formerly known as The Jet Center) on the Ft.
Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. This
combination of aircraft makes it possible for Island Air to
transport both passengers and cargo to literally every island in
the Bahamas and Caribbean that has a runway. Also,
with all aircraft in the fleet having two engines, unlike the
single-engine Cessna Caravan aircraft used by some competitors,
all Island Air Charters aircraft can legally and safely fly to
and from the Bahamas in all weather conditions.
Our passenger service counters,
located in the main lobby of the 1050 Building of the Sheltair
building complex (formerly known as the Jet Center), are
especially convenient for our international passengers, simply
because we share our lobby with the U.S. Customs and Border
Protection general aviation clearing center. This
convenient location assures our passengers can clear U.S.
Customs and Immigration and be on their way home, or perhaps to
the main passenger terminal in minimal time.
Island Air offers safe, reliable and affordable service to those
destinations not served by the major airlines, and we make a
conscious effort to eliminate the hassles associated with
international travel in these days of heightened security.
With literally
thousands of people traveling each year to and from the Bahamas
on Island Air, we hope you'll consider us for your air
travel needs on your next visit to South Florida or the Bahamas.
